Advocacy Strategies

  • Community Building: Bring students with disabilities together and strengthen links with disablilty activists,  faculty and staff.
  • Legal Action: Use legal opinions and litigation to effect change.
  • Political Action: Increase the participation of disabled students in the political process and lobby for changes to policy, procedures and law.
  • Education: Inform the campus community about important changes in ways of thinking about disability. Raise awareness of disability rights and the new social model of disability.
Disability Rights

Our advocacy is rights based and pro-empowerment. We view disability as a human rights issue, and a minority rights issue. We work with the social model of disability rather than the outdated medical or charity model of disability. We see disability as a complex social and political phenomenon, not a medical issue, or an individual burden.
