About Access!

Access UVic (formerly the Society for Students with Disabilities) originated at the University of Victoria in the early 1980’s. Since its inception, our organization has worked tirelessly to ensure that the political voice of students with disabilities is heard on campus. Access is part of a long international history of political and social struggle resulting in the development of a social movement for disabled people similar to the other civil rights movements of the last half-century. Historically, university campuses have been empowering launching pads for enormous social change. The goal of Access is to contribute to greater understanding, inclusion and accessibility for all people with disabilities on campus and in society.

The Access Association of Disabled Students is incorporated as an autonomous non-profit society. Our governing Board includes students and alumni with a broad range of academic and professional experience and many different disabilities. Current President Scott Garnett is a graduate student in History. Executive director Rose Mariana Robb provides invaluable leadership, vision and commitment. Access welcomes participation from both disabled and non-disabled members of the campus community. We invite you to share in our goals and aspirations and take pride in our accomplishments.
